How to install the scanner?
Connect the scanner with the USB cable and plug it into the computer USB port. Windows will automatically prompt the installation wizard. Follow the guided steps to start installation.
2.
Where can I find the scanner installation driver disk or program when prompted by the installation wizard?
Look for the scanner driver on the 'Scannerdriver' directory in the Installation CR-ROM.
3.
What is calibration? Is it a must to do calibration?
Calibration adjusts the contrast and brightness of the scanner so that the OCR will obtain optimal results. It is recommended that users must perform the calibration before using the scanner in order to obtain a better quality scanned image.
4.
What is the difference between 'Scan English Card' and 'Scan Chinese Card'?
Select 'Scan English Card' if the business card contains only English characters. If the business card contains any Chinese characters, select 'Scan Chinese Card' option. This option will process both English and Chinese characters.
5.
How can I select more than one business card at one time?
Simply click on the cards to select more than one name card image in the Image browser view.
6.
What is Image browser?
Image browser is a viewing layout in BizCard Finder which enables you to view all the name card images in the database in a thumbnail format.
7.
What is Database browser?
Database browser is a viewing layout in BizCard Finder which enables you to view all the information of all the name cards in the database in a listing format. You will not be able to view the name card images in this layout.
8.
Why is there a green color box on the name card image?
The green color box is a guideline set in the BizCard Finder application, It is used to segment the name card image into distinct fields and the OCR engine will process each image segment, recognize the data and post them into the labeled fields.
9.
Why is there a 'verified' checkbox on the 'Edit' view?
At times, the OCR results may not be 100% accurate, thus you might want to make some minor correction on it. The 'verified' checkbox is for you to take note of which name cards you have checked through.
10.
I am not satisfied with the OCR results. What can I do?
You can re-process the name card scanning by selecting 'Process English cards', 'Process Chinese cards', 'Process European cards' or 'Process unrecognized images' from the 'OCR' menu.
11.
What does “Unrecognized Images?means?
Unrecognized images refer to card images that are not properly processed due to some system error or application error.
12.
I cannot rotate the image when it is in the 'Image Browser' view.
Images can only be rotated when they are in the 'Edit' view.
13.
How do I sort the business cards?
You may choose to sort the business cards according to time (time the business card was created), name or company by selecting any of the options from the 'Sort' menu. In addition, in 'Database Browser' view, you may also choose to sort according to any of the fields that are displayed by clicking on the column header.
14.
My business card has 2 sides. How do I keep the information of both sides of the business card?
When scanning the 2 sided business card, scan the front part of the business card first. Then click the “Back?button, insert the card again for scanning; make sure you insert the card with the back part of the business card facing down. All the information on the front part of the business card will be recognized and placed into the labeled fields. The back part of the business card will be saved as an image only. You can make use of the ‘click and post?feature to place the information on the back part of the business card into the labeled fields.
15.
What can I do by using the “click and post?feature?
Place your cursor on the area of the business card that you want to recognize. Left-click, hold and drag it across the area. If English card option is selected, the area will be highlighted in a blue color box. If Chinese card option is selected, the area will be highlighted in a purple color box. Right-click, a menu will appear. Select the field where you want to place the processed information.
16.
What is the difference between 'Click & Post' and 'Drag & Drop'?
1. 'Click and Post' feature involves selecting an area on the business card, processing this area, and posting the information to the designated field. All the business card images (front images) have OCR layouts on them.
2. To make use of the 'Click and Post' feature, select any of the areas on the business card image. The selected area will be highlighted in purple or blue. Right-click, and a menu will appear. Select any of the fields. The information from the processed area will then be posted to the designated field.
3. For 'Drag and Drop', it's normally used when the processed information has been recognized but placed in the wrong field. First, place your mouse on the field, and single left-click on the mouse, and the text will be highlighted in blue.
4. Left-click on your mouse, hold it down, and move your cursor to the field that you want to place the information in.
5. Release your mouse. The information will then be placed in the designated fields.
17.
Can I send an email to the contact person in my database directly from the program?
Yes, you can. Just select the business card of the contact person, click the 'Email' icon on the toolbar, an email window will be launched. The email address of the contact person will be placed into the addressee automatically.
18.
What is the use of 'Memo'? I have not entered anything into the memo, yet it already contains some information.
All the information in the memo is actually the OCR results of the business card. The purpose of memo is to store the creation time of the business card, OCR results, and any other additional details of this contact person. If you choose not to store the OCR results, you can always change this option by selecting 'OCR Options' from 'Settings' menu, and select 'Don't display OCR text in Memo'.
19.
How can I categorize my business cards?
Select the business cards that you want to categorize. Then, go to ‘Edit?and select 'Set Category'. A window with all the different categories will appear. Select the preferred categories and click 'OK'. If you cannot find a suitable category, you can always modify or remove any of the existing categories; or add a new category. To do so, go to ‘View? select ‘Category Bar? A separate window with all the categories will appear, you can then modify or remove the existing categories; or add a new category.
20.
How can I find a particular business card?
You may look for business card under different categories. Select 'Category Bar' from the 'View' menu. A separate window appears, and you may select the categories you wish to look into. All the business cards under the category chosen will be displayed. Also, you can make use of the 'QuickSearch'. Enter any keyword, in English, Chinese or “PinYing?in the search textbox, and the business cards containing the keyword will appear in the search results. And you can also search the card using advanced search on toolbar.
21.
What are the uses of the '&' and '|' buttons next to the search textbox?
These buttons acted as separators that allow you to enter multiple keywords for searching the business cards. If '&' is used, BizCard Finder will only display all the business cards that contain all the keywords entered. If '|' is used, BizCard Finder will display all the business cards that contain any of the keywords.
22.
Am I limited to the fields that I can view in 'Database' browser?
No, you can decide the fields that you prefer to view in 'Database' browser. To change the fields to be displayed, select 'View options' from 'Settings' menu. The left column contains all the fields that are available in the database, but are not displayed in the 'Database' browser. The right column contains all the fields that are already displayed in the 'Database' browser. You may choose to add or remove field from these columns, and you can also change the order of the displayed fields.
23.
How do I export/import my database to/from the Microsoft Outlook/Outlook Express?
Start the Microsoft Outlook/Outlook Express application. In the BizCard Finder, go to 'File', select 'export to syncdatabase' or 'Import from syncdatabase', followed by 'Outlook' or 'Outlook Express'. All the business card details in the database will be exported/imported to/from the Microsoft Outlook/Outlook Express address book.

How to synchronize the database with Palm Address Book?
Place the Palm on the cradle. Connect the cradle to PC. Go to ‘File? select 'Device synchronization', and select Palm. You can also click 'Synchronization' button on the toolbar to lauch the synchronization window.
25.
What is the difference between synchronizing with WinCE Contacts and BizCard Finder (WinCE)?
Connect the PDA to the PC. When synchronizing with WinCE contacts, only the contact database will be synchronized. When synchronizing with BizCard Finder for WinCE, the databases and the name card images in the applications will be synchronized.
